UNIFORMS
Marching Uniforms
Marching Band students will be issued a marching uniform during and camp that cost the school a great deal of money.
Part of the band camp fees covers the cost of the uniform "rental". Before you will be issued a uniform, you will be required to be up to date with your band camp fees. This fee will be used to make any repairs to your uniform and to also cover cleaning expenses.
Students are responsible for returning the same uniform they are issued at the end of marching season, in the same condition they received it in. Do not trade uniforms with anyone, for any reason.
For marching band, each student will need to have a good pair of marching practice shoes. These shoes should be made of good quality, flexible, and be a cross-trainer style shoe. Students will not be allowed to practice in bare feet, sandals, dress shoes, or any other open toed style shoe.
Also, all marching band members will need to order a pair of special uniform shoes (see “forms” sheet). The school provides all other parts of the uniform.
Before each performance there will be a uniform check by the uniform manager, drum majors, section leaders and director. If you do not have a part of your uniform, including the correct color of socks, you will not be allowed to perform.
Each student should wear appropriate clothing to rehearsals, depending on the weather. If it is raining, do not assume that rehearsal is canceled. Bring a raincoat and wet weather gear. In the event of rain during rehearsal, woodwinds will not need to take their instruments outside, but they will march. Also, in case of hot weather, bring sun block, a water bottle and appropriate clothing.

PROCEDURES AND INFORMATION
The marching band uniforms are an expensive element of the marching band. It is important for them to be kept in good condition and clean at all times. The bands appearance is judged wherever they go. All competitions and all performances. Every effort is made to ensure the uniforms are kept in prime condition.
Part of that is accomplished by implementing some simple, but effective procedures.
The Marching Band Uniform consists of:
Marching shoes
Pants/Bibbers
Jacket
Hat (Shako)
With the exception of the shoes, these items are provided and maintained by the Boosters. Each student will be provided a Band t-shirt, which will be maintained by the students, and needs to be worn to Band events.
Shoes are purchased through the boosters, but are the property of the student. However, whilst the student is a member of the band the shoe remain with the uniform in the designated storage area.
Each student is required to supply and wear black socks and black bike-type shorts that can be worn under their street clothes. In the event a student does not have black socks for a performance, a pair, if available, will be supplied at a cost of $5.00
Hair accessories will also be the student's responsibility. Hair accessories will only be required for competitions.
Face make up is not permitted when in uniform.
Phones, wallets, loose coins and other personal items should not be left in the pockets of street clothing. These items will be stored during performances in the students’ hat box or shoe box in the designated storage unit. It is suggested students have a small zipper or drawstring style bag to place their personal items in. The bag must be small enough to fit easily inside the hat or shoe box.
Precautions are taken to ensure the security of all items during performances, however, the Golden Valley High School and Band Booster organization will not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to personal property. If it is not needed, it is recommended items are left at home.
The Procedure for Uniform assembly:
Chaperones/uniform assigned helpers will be assisting at each stage
1. The students/musicians will trade their street pants/shorts for their bibbers and put them on over their bike-type shorts. Phones, wallets etc must be removed from the pockets prior to exchanging pants.
2. Shoes and then Hats follow. For competitions, hair will need to be put up completely under the hat. Place all personal items in hat or shoe box
3. Jackets are last to be put on.
During Band Camp each student gets fitted with a complete uniform. Each item in the uniform has been assigned a number, which will be your student's number until his/her jacket changes. The kids need to know their numbers.
Each uniform gets cleaned over the summer. If your child's uniform gets dirty/stained it will be your responsibility to have it cleaned at Dry Clean Express.
Although this may seem common sense, it is amazing how many times students forget that fences, gates, handrails, instrument cases, vehicles, equipment trailers, and buses are often sources of grime and dirt. Leaning against, laying on or rubbing along invariably result in uniforms getting dirty and/or damaged. Students should avoid contact with these and any other similar hazards.
